Custom Harley Paint Job Information

There are two tones, pinstripes, flames, murals and many other ways to do your custom Harley paint job. People love their Harleys and get things for them like saddle bags, chrome parts and accessories. Making their bikes as individual as they are. Having a custom Harley paint job is just another way to individualize their bike.

A paint job can be very mild as stock or even just plain color. Motorcycle custom painting can be as elaborate as solid murals over all the area of all the painted parts of a motorcycle. Every thing in between like graphics, pinstripes and flames are very nice.

The paint job has to be of excellent quality. Not just the art work but the entire process of painting. Removal of old paint, making sure there is no rust. Then making that any imperfections are taken care of. Working with several coats of primer to make sure that the surface is perfectly smooth.

Sealer is less porous than primer and prevents bleed through as well as promotes bonding. I feel a necessary step that some painters skip.

The base color and custom Harley paint job comes next, from the mild to the wild. Some ways may require masking some may be free hand airbrushing. Some people paint several coats of clear before the custom paint is applied. this is a barrier in case a mistake is made it can be wet sanded to the clear coat to start over. When the custom painting is finished many coats of clear coat is applied.

It is then wet sanded with many different grits to extremely fine. After the wet sanding it is buffed with a few different types of compounds. At last it is polished by hand with a "glaze". This can done for a few months after washing, as no wax should be used for a few months to let the paint cure out completely.
